Let’s face it, getting around Milwaukee can be difficult. You could take the bus, but memorizing bus routes isn’t exactly easy, so people avoid this option. You could walk, but if you’re on the East Side headed to the Third Ward, you will be walking for quite awhile. The simple truth is, Milwaukee was not designed to walking-friendly.

Recently, a solution has emerged to counteract some of these difficulties.

Streetcars.

Milwaukee used to have them, but they disappeared many years ago. Cities like Portland, Seattle and Toronto use streetcars to connect people with their jobs, homes and entertainment destinations. They promote city development and mobility throughout the city. It can be used by pedestrians, train travelers, automobile drivers and even bicyclists.

Personally, I think Milwaukee could really benefit from a streetcar system. Only question is how much would a project like this cost? It is projected to cost around $95.8 million. Wow that’s a lot of money. You read more about the proposed transit option here
