Was watching MSNBC last night and Rachel Maddow was interviewing Rand Paul, the recently nominated GOP candidate for the state of Kentucky. She was asking him about his views on the Civil Rights Act of 1964 after a interview Mr. Paul gave to Louisville Courier-Journal in which he basically explained he didn’t like the idea of the govt. telling private businesses what they can and can not do. He did explain, though, he objected to any form of institutional racism. So basically, Mr. Paul is saying that he doesn’t like racism, but feels that if businesses wanted to they could deny entry based on race or even sexual orientation. Probably not a popular viewpoint held by most Americans, but the man is entitled to his own opinion. He isn’t actively pursuing any political agenda to revise the Civil Rights Act, but the media is definitely gonna make this an issue from this.
What I found from watching the interview, though, was Rand Paul has no personality whatsoever. He showed absolutely no emotion from when the interview began and ended. He simply sat there with an empty look on his face. People complained back in 2004 that talking to John Kerry was like making conversation with a brick wall, but if you’re talking to Rand Paul you might as well be talking to someone in a coma.
